How Springpoint Choice Members Stay Active in the Community
Springpoint Choice members are able to enjoy the luxury of aging in place, which promotes an active, independent, and healthy lifestyle. Here, we spotlight two members who fully embrace their talents and passions.
Natalie McIntyre, artist
“It’s never too late to learn something new. And learning to handle a diesel hydraulic lift while painting 60 feet up was about the most fun challenge I could have had this year!”
McIntyre recently completed a beautiful bee mural in the town of Trilith in Fayetteville, GA. According to McIntyre, bees are an important part of the community, with professionally tended hives and honey shared by all of those living here. This outstanding piece took approximately four weeks to complete.
McIntyre, a native of Lewes, DE, also took part in renewal initiatives at the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village in Dover. According to a recent article in the Cape Gazette, “McIntyre’s artistry is reflected in murals adorning the walls of the museum’s main exhibit hall as well as in individual paintings for sale in the museum’s gift shop. The murals provide the perfect backdrop for exhibits highlighting the work of Delaware artisans, the importance of the state’s chicken industry, and the drivers of technological change in farming.”
Dr. Roy Fitzgerald, sculptor
Dr. Fitzgerald found a knack for wood sculpting in retirement. Back in September, several pieces of his work were unveiled at Mill Park in Milton, DE. The three sculptures – “Gift of Hope,” “Maori Bloom,” and “Gateways” – were on display for six weeks. These public art displays were part of the town’s economic development committee initiative.
Dr. Fitzgerald’s exhibit was also featured in the Cape Gazette. According to the article, “Fitzgerald learned wood sculpture after he retired from a career working for Crozer-Chester Medical Center near Philadelphia, and as an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Thomas Jefferson University. He took up wood carving after his wife gave him a carving chainsaw.”
